Donn Throwing Bowls for Haiti

Last week local potter Donn Zver was watching the horrific news reports from Port-au-Prince and the desperate need of Haiti’s children and knew he had to help in some way. Now he’s busy making bowls each to be given away with a $20 donation to support the UNICEF Canada Haiti Earthquake Fund.

Said Zver, “I felt I just had to help the humanitarian support effort. I decided that as an artist I could help by using my work to raise money for the UNICEF Canada Haiti Earthquake Fund. UNICEF is leading the coordination of emergency water, sanitation and hygiene, child nutrition, child protection, and education efforts of all humanitarian organizations on the ground in Haiti. In addition, for every dollar donated to the UNICEF Canada Haiti Earthquake Fund, the Canadian International Development Agency will contribute a dollar to the relief efforts in Haiti.”

Zver continued, “The need of the children in Haiti is desperate Nearly half the population of Haiti is under 18 years of age, 38% are under the age of 14, and many thousands are either orphaned or have become separated from their families and caregivers.”

In the last several days Donn Zver Pottery has made 200 bowls which are now in the process of being glazed and fired. Each bowl will then be given away with a $20 donation in aid of the UNICEF Canada Haiti Fund.

Starting on Saturday, January 30th the bowls will be available at Donn Zver Pottery for a $20 donation per bowl to the UNICEF Canada Haiti Fund.
