On Saturday, November 3, 2012, Ballet Jörgen Canada brings Swan Lake to Hamilton Place as part of the award-winning dance company’s 25th Anniversary coast-to-coast tour.
To celebrate Ballet Jörgen Canada’s 25th Anniversary Season, Artistic Director and CEO Bengt Jörgen has re-envisioned the classic Swan Lake, infusing in it a hint of Canadian heritage as is often a sign of his work: Jörgen re-imagines the classic tale in the picturesque seascape of the Fortress of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. Swan Lake’s elaborate sets are designed by Camellia Koo, reflecting the beauty of Canada’s national heritage park and providing a dramatic backdrop to Robert Doyle’s 17th century costume designs.
“This will be the first time since 2005 that Ballet Jörgen Canada has performed in Hamilton, and I am delighted to be able to bring this work to Hamilton Place and to be able to do it with the kind of incredible dancers that we have. Swan Lake has an evocative and inspiring quality that makes it a pleasure and beauty to work on, and I’m excited about transferring that feeling to the people watching it,” said Bengt Jörgen.
In addition, Ballet Jorgen has generously donated one hundred Swan Lake tickets to An Instrument for Every Child.
