My Journey with Josie is the story of Salvina’s relationship with her sister, Josie, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the earlier death of Salvina’s mother (when Salvina was a teenager). At the same time, Salvina struggles to cope as she discovers that she herself is pregnant. Through journal entries and personal stories, Salvina shares how Josie coped with the fear of leaving her three young children behind, and how Salvina herself came to terms with bringing a new life into the world as her beloved sister left it.
Through Salvina and Josie’s parallel experiences, My Journey with Josie counsels that emotional healing after the death of a loved one is possible. Cancer is a challenge many face and it touches the lives of the people we love. My Journey with Josie provides comfort and hope to the reader who knows this challenge. As a social worker Salvina offers seminars and workshops on loss and bereavement and caregiver self- care.
