A new studio location on the 15th annual Dundas Studio Tour is the charming studio at 112 Hillcrest Avenue in Greensville of potter Vida Cegys.
Vida Cegys has been creating her distinctive hand formed pottery pieces for the last twelve years, taking up the craft after retiring from a thirty-five year career as a high school teacher at Orchard Park and Parkside high schools where she taught both History and English.
Vida creates whimsical bowls, mugs, masks, wall plaques, bird and toad houses, and a variety of other ornamental and beautifully coloured sculptural forms. She usually draws the image of what she wishes to create and then rolls and sculpts the image from the clay. There is something particularly magical, dreamlike and surrealistic in her pieces; they make one feel of fairy dust and magic spells.
Her work has been purchased by buyers almost literally throughout the world: Europe, South America, China, Asia and North America.
Showing at her studio at 112 Hillcrest Avenue during the Dundas Studio Tour are jeweller Evi Pertens, artist blacksmith Mark Korczynski, and fashion designer, Jannis Ruck, all of whom are also new to the Dundas Studio Tour.
Always the weekend before Thanksgiving, the Tour runs Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and features six studio locations with twenty-seven participating artists. You can enjoy food samples, table-setting inspiration and fabulous pieces of art for purchase — pottery, photography, weaving, textiles, jewellery, blown glass, and more — directly from the Studio Tour artists.
Admission to the Dundas Studio Tour is free and each studio offers a draw for a special prize. For more information about the Dundas Studio Tour, call 905-379-7353 or visit the website at www.dundasstudiotour.ca.
